The Sisters

How Did the Sister’s Cafe Begin?

Growing up in a house full of sisters (and one great brother) was a wonderful childhood. Sure, we had our share of drama, but the bonds between us grew deep and strong. When our lovely sister-in-law joined the family, we were thrilled to gain another sister! Today the five of us enjoy a cherished sisterhood of love, support, and friendship. Each of us feels strongly about creating a home for our families that is a place of joy and safety. A home in which meal times are about family and nourishing the soul, as well as the body.
With that in mind, our big sister Melanie came up with the idea of starting a recipe blog together and we all enthusiastically jumped in! She had already established a tradition of creating a recipe binder of her own favorite recipes to give to each of us as we got married. As the oldest, she had plenty of wonderful advice and experience in the kitchen and so those binders were well appreciated! During that time, we would share with each other any new favorite recipe that we found worthy to add to our binders. As you can imagine, the idea of creating a recipe blog together was perfect and so The Sisters Café was born!
We hope that while you are here you will be inspired! After all, cooking and baking is a labor of love – whether it is the love of preparing delicious food or the love of caring for your family… and preferably both!

Melanie

I am currently living in the beautiful South (Chattanooga, Tennessee) with my husband Brad and our 5 (yes five) lively sons. I am (happily) surrounded by boys, so I especially love the “girl time” this website provides! I love being a wife and a mother. I feel that it is my greatest work and put my heart and soul into creating a happy and nurturing home for my family. I have a strong testimony and faith in Jesus Christ and am a firm believer in the scripture that says through small and simple things, great things are brought to pass! This applies to family dinner, the simple ritual of sharing a daily meal together creates strong families! That is the main reason I cook and bake – boys love food :) It brings them home and gets them around the kitchen table :)
I welcome you to visit my other blog Melandboys, where I celebrate family life, share ideas (including my weekly menus) and love to connect with other women!

I absolutely adore my family and love my role as mother and wife. I am married to a great guy and have 3 precious children, Gabe, Nyah, and Ian.  After 8 years of working as a NICU nurse I decided I was ready for the hard stuff and became a stay-at-home Mom…and I’m loving it!! For the time being, we have found our home in Seattle. Give me just a bit more sun and I would say it’s the perfect place to live – green everywhere you look plus whale-watching and snowboarding all within reach. You can’t beat that!
There are so many things I appreciate and cherish in life. I love babies. I love to travel and see new places. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love to curl up in front of a fire and read. I love photographing my darling kids. I love to teach and share. And I love to create things, from baking muffins to planting a garden. I have discovered that it’s the simple things that make me the happiest!

Mindy

I am a woman of faith. I am a wife, a mother, a sister, and a daughter. I am a homemaker and a Physician Assistant. I am a Cougar (Go BYU!) and a Bengal (Go ISU!). I live in Highland, Utah with my little family. My days are full of craziness, but I find that life is best lived in a beautiful mess! I married my husband and heart complete in 2006. Griff and I now have two darling little boys: Jack and Colt. We spend our days having adventures (the least of which is cleaning the bathroom).
As for me personally? I have a love affair with nature and refresh my soul by hiking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and snowboarding. I adore curling up in a warm quilt with a good book or just sneaking in a few pages between diaper changes. I play softball when I can, and I pack in as much time with my family as possible. And of course I love cooking! I confess this was a developed taste, but with beloved sisters like mine… how could I resist?Nowadays I pour through cookbooks and blogs ‘ooh-ing’ and ‘aah-ing’ with the best of them, and I get entirely too much satisfaction out of making yummy dinners and creating tasty treats. For a peek into my happy life go to www.mindyngriff.blogspot.com.

 Erin

I’m the youngest sister and so I have been able to glean from the fabulous examples of my older sisters all my life. They have always been an inspiration to me! I have been married to my wonderful husband for 8 years, and we have four children ages 6, 4, 2, and newborn. We are currently living in Michigan as my husband finishes his medical residency program, and we love it here! We are active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I have been serving as the president of the local Young Women program (which is our church youth program for girls ages 12-18) for 4 years now.
My happiest moments and greatest fulfillment comes from being a wife and a mother. As a homemaker, I enjoy creating a spiritual, safe, and happy haven for my family. Besides cooking and baking, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, sewing, gardening, getting together with friends, attending my dance class, and watching BYU football with my husband : )

Amy

I’m Amy and I’m married to the only brother in the family, Matt. We have three sweet but crazy little boys that can definitely be a handful when they want to! I love to dance, exercise, and I’m a bit of a soccer fanatic. Some of our favorite ways to have fun as a family include: riding our horses, country dancing, BBQs up the canyon, and eating chocolate chip cookies while we watch movies- especially with our friends and family!
I freely admit that I was a completely clueless cook before I married into my family of sisters. But it’s a beautiful thing, with a little practice and some really good recipes, you’ll be amazed what you can cook up!
