1 yellow cake mix (the kind with pudding)
1 (3.5 oz) box of instant vanilla pudding
1 TB poppyseeds
1/2 cup pinapple or orange juice
1/2 cup oil
1 cup sour cream (I use lite)
4 eggs
Mix yellow cake mix, vanilla pudding and poppyseeds. Add juice, oil, and sour cream and mix. Add 4 eggs one at a time, mix well. Grease and flour a bundt pan. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
When the cake is about 10 minutes from being done start the glaze.
Glaze
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup butter (1 cube)
1-2 TB corn syrup (I usually leave this out--I am not a fan of this)
Bring to a boil--then keep bubbly until ready to pour over cake. It is really like syrup that soaks in. Give it a few minutes to soak in and then turn it out onto a cake plate. Enjoy!

Use your Silpat in:
Traditional Oven
Microwave Oven
Freezer

I couldn't live without my Salad Shooter! I use it for everything! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try your version of poppyseed cake. I use the one from the Lion House cookbook and it is pretty similar. The only thing I do different is add almond extract to the cake and a little to my glaze. I also like to sprinkle the top with slivered almonds. It is addictive!

ReplyDeletemy can opener. Seriously, how hard would cooking be without that little guy? It's a nice one that takes the whole lid off safely by not cutting it. I love it!
ReplyDeleteclose second would be my kitchenaid mixter :)
For sure the kitchenaid...super quick and easy to make yummy treats and breads for the family!
ReplyDeleteRamekins - everything tastes better baked in a ramekin.

ReplyDeletesteinerclan@mac.com
My daughter Lydia is definitely my favorite kitchen tool. She measures out the spices and dumps them in the bowl for me. She cleans up any flour that spills out of the bowl. And it is because of her that I have even chartered into the unknown world of cooking. With her, cooking is fun- isn't that what the best kitchen tool is supposed to do?
ReplyDeleteI love my immersion blender!

ReplyDeleteI love (don't laugh) my vidalia chopper! It makes all the veggies, chicken, whatever uniform in size and SOOOOO easy to chop. Love it! And to think that I laughed at the commercials on tv.
Oh, this is so hard. It's like choosing which of my children I love the most--okay, maybe not JUST like that, but close. I've grown up loving kitchen gadgets, probably because my mom is a fabulous cook but also because I have fond memories of my dad and I watching infomercials of kitchen gadgets. We didn't order too many of them, but we did try out a few. The rest we accumulated at places like Bed Bath & Beyond. We sound so weird, I know. I suffer from an addiction of gathering way too many recipes for me to ever try in my lifetime, so I love your blog and have been trying some of your recipes lately. Thanks so much for sharing! Okay, if I really had to choose just one favorite kitchen tool, I guess it would be my favorite knife--my Santoku. I have two just like it because I use it so often.
ReplyDeletesaddlebackshutters@msn.com

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love my Miracle Blade knives. I actually like chopping food (even onions!) now: it's so easy and fast.
Andrea (akricks@msn.com)
I think it might have to be my cleaver...I've had it for fifty years. It chops vegetables and then acts like a scraper, picks the diced vegies up and plops them in the skillet or soup pot...almost like in one motion. I guess its partner might have to be the hand held stone for keeping sharp.
ReplyDeleteMy Master Cook recipe software, where I store your recipes, would also have to be a favorite.
I do love the Silpat though...I have a big one that I use for kneading bread, etc. Sure could use another cookie sheet sized one!

I even take it with me to other houses or the club canteen if I think there may be vegetable peeling involved!!
BTW love the blog - you all do a fantastic job!!!
Jo

My favorite tool in the kitchen is my chopper. It dices ripe tomatoes without smashing them. I have seen it on infomercials and I think they call it the wizard chopper. I LOVE IT!!!!

ReplyDeleteFavorite tool? Toss-up between my microplane zester and my pampered chef nut chopper.
I've always wanted to try these sil-pat things. Hope I get my chance!
Love all the recipes on here! I love my KitchenAid and my ice cream maker-those are probably more machines than tools, but I use them so much they are tools to me!
