Hello Friends!
Sorry about the lack of posts, I have had the BIGGEST headaches with my computers lately! My PC has an icky virus that has rendered it useless! I am so sad, I may have to go to the 'Geek Squad' to rescue it because I have done everything I can! And my laptop has given me trouble too! For some reason I have errors in Internet Explorer, because it keeps kicking me off the internet, even though I still have a connection. I wrote this whole post up on Monday and it was all lost:)I have changed to Mozilla Firefox and I am now happily enjoying the internet again! But needless to say, I did not have the time to re write it all until tonight. My boys go back to school tomorrow so it has been BUSY around here! This recipe is perfect for busy school mornings--you can just pull the biscuits out of the freezer and have a warm breakfast for your family in minutes!

This week marks the 1 year anniversary for us living in the south! I thought I would share a little of what I have learned and LOVE about the Southern Culture:
*Everyone has a dining room and love to use it for gatherings and good home cooked food( I really wanted a dining room--and it was hard to find in the West--but not here-lucky me:)
*People go to church every Sunday and pray over every meal...even in a restaurant.
*You always finish with a "mam" or "sir" when you answer a question--happily my boys are starting to pick this up!
*No matter how old you are, parents are always referred to as"Mama" and "Daddy" and children are always "baby" to their parents or anyone for that matter.
*And Southerners LOVE a good biscuit...even all the fast food joints have them on the menu !
And, with that in mind, let me introduce you to a wonderful biscuit recipe from my friend Sheri--not a southerner, but a fabulous cook:)

Freezer Biscuits

printable recipe here
4 cups flour
2 TBs. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 cup butter
16oz sour cream
3-5 tsp water
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Cut in butter until there are small well blended pieces. Add sour cream and water, mix well. Knead and roll out to 1 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Freeze individually on a cookie sheet. When frozen solid, place in a freezer bag to store. When ready to use, place frozen biscuits on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 425 for 15=17 minutes or until top is golden. makes 16-20.
These sound sooooo yummy! I love anything with sour cream in the batter and the fact they can be aked right from the freezer is WONDERFUL! Please post the biscuits and gravy recipe when you get it from your cute southern friend. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good make-ahead item to be able to pop in the oven. With only 2 of us at home now, I could just take out as many I need for that meal... Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love biscuits with jam! The south is definitely one of my favorite places to get them too!
ReplyDeleteI love things you can make ahead. You gave me this recipe a long time ago, but I still haven't made them. Now I'm excited to make these, sis.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun post! I loved hearing about what you have learned about the South and the way they do things. What a fun culture it is there. Can't wait to visit you in a few weeks!! :) The biscuits look wonderful - can't wait try them out!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try these. I've got the gravy down, but have never perfected the southern biscuit. I served in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission (what part of Tennessee are you in?) and fell in LOVE with biscuits and gravy.
ReplyDeleteI loved your post. It made me miss Tennessee!
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI got the gravy recipe from my friend Mary Bess today--so I will post it soon!
MaryAnn,
I am in the Knoxville mission--Chattanooga area! When did you serve? Did you know an Elder Martin? He served here too! We love Tennessee too!
This screams 'DANGER DANGER YOU'RE GOING TO EAT FIVE OF THESE!' to me! Haha! I can't wait to try them! My husband and I are both college students and I've been thinking about ways to be better to make sure that we still eat good dinners when we're both so busy. This is such a PERFECT idea to go with dinner!
ReplyDeleteI could very easily devour like 5 of this at once. They look incredible, especially with all the jam slathered on them.
ReplyDeleteI've never visited the south and hearing about their culture is very refreshing. You have convinced me to visit. :)
ReplyDeleteThe biscuits look absolutely yummy!
While not all southerners fit the description listed, many of them are like that. I was born and raised in TX and Oklahoma, so I've witnessed much of the southern hospitality :). Congrats on making it one year in the south LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thank you for this recipe. I never knew I could freeze biscuits before making them! I will be trying this out soon. I'm sure my stepdaughters would love them.
Melanie, I served there from 95-97, a loooooong time ago. I never made it down to the Chattanooga area, but my husband served in Signal Mountain (yes, we served at the same time, but I promise, nothing happened!:-) I served in Knoxville, Crossville, Greeneville, and Jefferson City. I LOVE Tennessee and would move there in a heartbeat! Enjoy your time there!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I am from and still live in Louisiana... talk about Southern culture! It's a different world down here with our etoufees, jambalayas, red beans and rice, and gumbos! You must come further south and soak in some cajun culture!!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like the Popeyes biscuit recipe, which is to die for so I'm sure these will be savory too!
Looks amazing!!!! /I look forward to your feedback /thanks for this man it was very helpful.
ReplyDeleteFreezer
My husband loves biscuits for breakfast but I admit I am not always in the mood to make them when he wants them. Then I came across your recipe and had to try them. This is a great recipe!!!! I was skeptical whether they would turn out because of cooking them for just 15 minutes while frozen. They are perfect. The other thing I like is they have way less butter than my grandmothers recipe, sorry grandma, and they remind me more of my moms Baking Powder Biscuits. Thanks Girls!!!
ReplyDeleteThese. are. perfect.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was born and raised in Alabama...with my grandmother making biscuits every morning whenever we were visiting...and these are just as good, (i just can't bring myself to say they're better, though they kinda are).
Straight from the freezer to the oven...love it. Feeding my hungry husband has never been so easy!
I've searched your website for the gravy recipe. Did you ever post it? I so love good biscuits and gravy!
ReplyDeleteThese are great biscuits, but also make incredible scones!! I love a cranberry scone from a local bakery, but often don't want to drive out to get it. I replaced the water with fresh squeezed orange juice, zested 2 oranges. Add at least a cup or more of dried cranberry, I like lots of cranberries!!
ReplyDeleteI brush the tops with milk or cream, and top with raw or turbinado sugar, regular works too!
They are so delicious!!
It's ok to just bake these immediately right? I want to do them for Thanksgiving this week but I do not have the time to make them ahead of time! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteJust made a practice batch of these for a freezer meal class I am teaching. Baked a few up last night and was very pleasantly surprised! Delicious. Looked and tasted like I had just made them. Oh so easy to keep these on hand. How long to you they keep frozen?
ReplyDeleteThe printable recipe link is not working.
