HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE! Sorry for the bad pic-I was lucky to even get one-this cranberry cocktail got entirely snatched up at a family party immediately after I snapped. Can you believe it's almost 2011? And that means it's party time! So lift a glass of this yummy non-alcoholic drink tonight or at any upcoming party you'll be attending! Pictured above is a 1/2 batch, this recipe makes a lot! Thanks Grandma Rice for yet another great recipe.

ReplyDeleteMmm... I love cranberry! I'll definitely make this for the next big party I'm invited to. Thanks for posting, Amy.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a delicious little drink.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you
Cranberry cocktail is frozen or the bottled stuff? Also, 48 CUPS of pineapple juice or 48 oz?
ReplyDeleteHey guys,
ReplyDeleteSorry for the confusion. This is how I received and have been making this recipe:
1 large cranberry cocktail (found by the FROZEN juices)
48 cups pineapple juice
1 cup grapefruit juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 cup sugar
2 large(Two 2 liters) ginger ale
Mix and serve over ice.
My family thought it was awesome this way and people wanted the recipe, etc. A ton of Grandma's recipes feed lots and lots of people so I didn't think much about it.
But since you asked, I thought I better double check with Grandma and apparently there are a few mistakes from the way Grandma makes it. She DOES use 48 OZ pineapple juice and only uses 1 (2-liter) bottle of Ginger ale. Apparently when she first made this cocktail, ginger ale only came in 1 liter bottles, which is why she said 2 large. Isn't that funny-time has changed a bit:) So I'm going to change the recipe-as it is originally supposed to be, and which I plan on trying as soon as possible-but know that it is also really good the other way too! Just a little more pineappley:) So it's up to you! And let me know you try it the other way. Thanks girls!
I also would like to know if the cranberry cocktail is in a frozen concentrate container or if it is a bottle of cranberry cocktail juice. I am hoping to make this for a girls night in this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIn the picture it kinda looks like a frozen drink but they way that you describe it makes it seems more like a punch. Can you clarify? Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your website and have used many of your recipes. I also just noticed that your Grandma Holman is from Idaho. I was wondering if we are related? What is your grandpa's name? My Grandpa is Albert Holman. He was the oldest of 11 siblings.
ReplyDeleteHi Ashly- I bet we are related! My Grandpa's name is Tedd Holman, but he was the 12th of 13 kids- so maybe not. I am the daughter of his oldest son Ken Holman. My grandpa's oldest brother's name is Albert Rider Holman. And my great grandfather's name is Albert Loader Holman! So are we related somehow? What a small world!
ReplyDeleteLisa and Sharlene-First of all, sorry this recipe is so vague. It an old recipe and needs some updating. I use frozen concentrate cranberry cocktail. If I think ahead of time I let it defrost and just pour it in or I just mix it around until it's dissolved. I serve this drink just like a regular juice in drinking glasses filled with ice. I haven't thought of trying it as a slush, that would probably be pretty good-just pouring the ginger ale over a frozen slush. Hmmm...so many possibilities!:)
We are related! I was not thinking when I said he had 11 siblings. I have 11 siblings! But my grandpa is the oldest of 13 and we have the same great-grandpa. Thanks for getting back to me!
