Ideas for snacks and treats on this website are endless! So I will spotlight the recipes that my sisters and I are making, and hopefully some of these will be helpful ideas to you if you are also preparing for a special General Conference weekend. :) For those readers who will not be watching the General Conference broadcasts, maybe these ideas will come in handy for the football games we're all enjoying lately!
For breakfast try our yummy Breakfast Quiche:

Or you can prepare Overnight Apple French Toast (my favorite!) or Praline Baked French Toast the night before and pop them in the oven in the morning for a super special (but no-mess) breakfast.

For snacks, I will be making Cinnamon Roasted Almonds:

and some dips like Texas Caviar and Hot Southwestern Bean Dip or Black and White Bean Dip. Last year I made Cheesy Chicken Fajita Dip, which was delicious!

I think most of us sisters make Cinnamon Rolls for General Conference every year. We make them the night before and put them in the oven in the morning. During the night just set them in a place that is slightly cooler than your home so that they can rise slowly during the night. (In the garage might be a good idea.) Last year I made my favorite Cream Cheese Strudel, which is always a hit. *Oh my goodness, I just realized I haven't posted that yet! That will be coming soon, I promise! :)

As for activities for children, Bingo Squares, Coloring Sheets and Conference Notebooks can be printed from here. I'll have Fruit Loops for my kids for the bingo game (big treat around here!). If you do a google search I'm sure you can find some primary-age Activity Packets for younger children. I went through our old Friend Magazines and ripped out all the 'funstuf' pages that we hadn't already done. Those, along with some quiet activities like Melty Beads and Playdo, will keep the little ones content while also helping them listen.
More information on when the sessions will be broadcasted and how to watch them can be found here on lds.org.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Thanks for sharing the treats that y'all have! Because the list on your site is endless, I'd rather not have to think as much and use what you are having! I seriously love your blog and always send friends to it. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOoo... those all sound awesome. I scoured your site earlier this week and came up with a lot of ideas for my conference weekend menu. I shared the menu with the readers on my site (FoodStorageAndBeyond.com) but I made sure to link back to all your posts. Thanks for awesome recipes!
ReplyDeletefun ideas sis! Ironically Gabe asked for cinnamon rolls today... very weird since I rarely make them. but just in time for Conference! :) Now I just need to figure out the rest of my menu and get to the store! I for sure will be making an overnight french toast though...
ReplyDeleteoh yum!! This post is making me hungry and very excited for conference:)
ReplyDeleteI'm making Over-night Apple French Toast tonight as per my family's request:) after seeing your latest post. I saw somebody already asked this question, but do you bake it covered or uncovered? If you happen to see this email tonight can somebody please reply. Don't want to ruin breakfast. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, I am so sorry that I am a day late in replying! I hope it worked out for you anyway. My answer would be to bake it uncovered. What did you do? Did it work okay? It might work either way, as long as it has some time at the end uncovered so it can crisp up the tops.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, hope your breakfast was yummy today!

Erin, it was wonderful! Thanks for sharing your recipe. I did bake it covered, because I was worried it might dry out too much. It wasn't as crispy as I was hoping, but now I know why:). However, even with covering it...it was a huge hit and my family was very happy! It threw me off that the caramel in the bottom gets rock hard when you assemble this dish and then melts back down to a liquid form when baking - kind of cool though. Very yummy and requested to be made again for General Conference morning - even when covered while baking! Thanks.
