Ham & Havarti Panini

Ham & Havarti Panini

When my friends and I got together for a luncheon a few months ago, our friend, Annie Christensen, made these delicious Ham & Havarti paninis for everyone.  They were so yummy!  We all thought they were fantastic.  Annie buys her Havarti and sourdough bread at Costco and stores extra loaves in the freezer so she’s never without. :) Try pairing these sandwiches with a warm soup for a delicious meal.

presliced sourdough bread
sliced Havarti cheese
sliced Ham
butter

Layer the sandwich with quantities according to your preference: bread, cheese, a thick layer of ham, cheese, bread.  Butter the outside of the sandwich.  Heat in a Panini press or an indoor electric grill.

*To make ahead: You can assemble the sandwiches and then place them back into the bread bag and keep in the refrigerator until you wish to serve them, at which point you can put them straight onto the Panini press.

  1. I do love a panini--this looks like a great combo. I think I need to run to Costco!!

  2. I'd love a panini machine... I saw a cook on TV yesterday do a panini that looked terrific - she was trying to get green spinach into children, so she put grated cheese and some butter into a food processor with some baby leaf spinach until it was all mushed up, then spread it onto her good bread, then topped this mixture with crispy pancetta (or bacon) and cooked it in the panini maker. The kids loved it, but I was thinking of doing the same thing only using my newly discovered favorite veggie, kale, instead of spinach and maybe cheddar cheese and crumbled up bacon... then just heating in a flat fry pan since I don't have a panini maker.

  3. Hey Bex, that sounds like a good idea. And I use my indoor electric grill (George Foreman type) instead of a panini press. Or of course a skillet or a griddle would work too, they just wouldn't 'press' the sandwich down. Anyway, hope you enjoy these! :)

  5. I LOVE ham and havarti sandwiches. I have herb & spice havarti I bought from Cheese N More, its a really cool store in Gap Mills, WV. Google it ;)

I love how the ham and havarti complement one another, I would also put tomato and lettuce on the sandwich and grill it. Another combination to try is cajun turkey and smoked cheddar. I get my cajun turkey from the walmart deli. I think the brand is Prima Della or something like that

I don't have a panini press but I have a grilling skillet and it works great! :) I wish we had a Costco nearby lol!
